Art Now Poster: Fall 2013

Graphic Design
I was tasked with creating the Art Now poster for the fall of 2013. The copy was provided by Butler's art department, but visually and conceptually, it was up to me. I wanted to incorporate student artwork from 2012 to show people the wide range of styles and media used by Butler's art students. The color scheme was season inspired, fall. Mainly, I hoped to create curiosity among students, strong enough curiosity to make them stop by the show!

Hinkle Fieldhouse Dog House

Mini me?

Graphic Design: Hinkle Fieldhouse Dog House
Michael Kaltenmark, my supervisor in Butler University's Web Marketing Department, convinced several local businesses to sponsor the building of a luxury dog house on wheels for Butler's live mascot, Blue III, or Trip. He envisioned a dog house reminiscent of the historic, Hinkle Fieldhouse. Michael trusted me to make his vision reality. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator and images of Hinkle as a model, I created a simplified version of the infamous structure. My artwork was then sent to a printer who specializes in car wraps. He then transformed my artwork into giant stickers and applied them to the walls of the dog house. The final product, depicted above, was featured in Butler's 2013 Homecoming Parade, Fall 2013 Art Now, and resides in Butler's Bookstore for all to enjoy when it's not being utilized by official Butler mascot, Blue III.

Instagram Memes

Blue II Meme

Graphic Design: Social Media Memes
I was tasked with creating a meme for each of Butler's live mascots, recently deceased Blue II and
Blue III or Trip. The memes were to be used on the dogs' Facebook and Pinterest accounts to raise awareness for and gain Instagram followers. Blue II's meme received 364 likes and 9 shares on Facebook, Trip's receiving 162 likes. The arrangement of the text and voice portrayed in the copy is meant to reflect the personalities my boss, Michael Kaltenmark, created for the dogs via social media.

Fall Intramural Sports Banner

Graphic Design: Fall Intramural Sports Banner
I was tasked with creating a large banner advertising the HRC's fall intramural sport teams. The poster was to include the available sports, as well as how and where to register. I saw this project through from brainstorming to ordering the final print. First, I brainstormed themes. I had a couple in mind, but my boss and I decided the basketball theme was most appropriate and quickly recognizable. Next, I made my sketch come to life in Illustrator, the layout of the text and logo mimicking a basketball hoop. Finally, I scouted printers in search of the best 'bang for your buck' offer, balancing price and quality, and followed through with the order.

Graphic Design: Homecoming Coloring Contest
The Butler Bookstore partners with Butler Web Marketing to host an annual coloring contest for homecoming. This year, I was tasked with creating the coloring sheet for the contest. It was to be of Butler's live mascot, Butler Blue III or Trip. I was given a rough sketch of Trip to use as a guide for this process. First, I put the image into Adobe Illustrator and used the pen tool to create the simple clean version of Trip you see above. Then, I used the Illustrator file to design the rest of the coloring sheet in InDesign.

Counseling and Consultation Services Website Revamp

This summer, I collaborated with Butler's Counseling Consultation Services (CCS) to revamp its website using Umbraco. I had a range of tasks including:
  1. Content changes and updates
  2. Updating staff images
  3. Taking pictures of CCS and embedding them into the individual pages of the website
  4. Creating new, individualized banners for the homepage (which should be up shortly)
  5. Compiling and creating the 'resources' tab (http://www.butler.edu/counseling-services/resources/)
  6. Organizing and creating 'Our Report Card,' displaying student quotes and service satisfaction graphs (http://www.butler.edu/counseling-services/about-us/our-report-card/)
  7. Creation of a CCS logo, which is still in the Butler approval process
  8. Creation of a new Safe Space logo
  9. Embedding of a video into the homepage

Homepage Banners

Graphic Design: Homepage Web Banners
A common task I encounter interning with Butler's Web Marketing Department is creating homepage banners for Butler's website (www.butler.edu). I'm provided with copy to include and the blank template including size and the 'more' button. Image selection and layout are my responsibility.

Intramural Sport Icons

Graphic Design: Intramural Sport Icons
The intramural sport website came with some individualized icons, however several of our events had generic ones. I was tasked with creating individualized icons for the sports currently represented by the general ones. The only parameter was to make the icons fit with the look of the ready-made icons.

Intramural Sports Page Buttons

Graphic Design: Intramural Sports Page Buttons
I was tasked with creating social media icons to be used as buttons on email, the intramural site, etc.
In addition, I was to create buttons linking to YouTube videos instructing how to cancel and
reschedule games.

HRC YouTube Banner

Graphic Design: HRC YouTube Banner
I was tasked with creating a collage style banner for the HRC's YouTube channel. I picked the images and laid out the collage. The HRC blue boxes on the side allow the images not to be cropped when viewed on devices with smaller bandwidths such as on iPads or smart phones.

7-Day Pass

Graphic Design: 7-Day Pass
I was tasked with designing a business card sized pass that could be awarded as a trial HRC membership, lasting a week.

Special Hours Signs

Graphic Design: Special Hours Signs
From time to time I'm tasked with creating special hours signage for the HRC. Signs require the HRC's logo and website as well as the special hours and a 'feature image' exemplifying the reason for the hours.

Fall Program Posters

Graphic Design: Fall Program Posters
I was tasked with creating five posters, one for each of the five main programs at the HRC. They were to conform to the HRC's color palate and typeface and include the HRC logo in some capacity. I chose to make them uniform so one wouldn't distract from another or look disjointed when displayed in a group. Also, I decided to add QR codes that link to each program's website, providing a quick way to learn more or get involved.
